Boat Monitoring System05/04/2016 - Sam
A LabVIEW project using the Single Board RIO for monitoring a narrowboat. The system contains a real-time dashboard (based on WebSockets and integration with a third party cloud data provider. It interfaces with various on-board sensors such as the inverter/charger, wireless temperature/humidity sensors and various web APIs (e.g. weather, flood warnings).
I presented on the system at the Sheffield LabVIEW User Group in March 2016 - you can view the presentation here.
Giant Tetris25/02/2014 - Sam
For well over a year I've been working on a personal project to create a giant (~6ft tall) version of Tetris using RGB LEDs. The project has now been released as Version 1.0. The game is playable over Wifi on any device with a modern web-browser such a PC, smartphone or tablet! You can read the full write-up on the National Instruments website here and the project also appeared on Hackaday.
Origami Art06/10/2012 - Sam
We're techies through and through which usually doesn't go hand in hand with the creative types - we'd rather be buried in code than poking around in paint. Sometimes though we have some funky creative ideas and this is one of them!
A unique gift for someone, no?
New website!30/09/2012 - Sam
After far too long, the new website finally goes live. The new site has been designed with CSS3/xhtml compliance using PHP and the Yii Framework. I generally shy away from design work as my skills are really all based around development and implementation of designs rather than the creative side but I'm really proud of what I've accomplished with the new design.
I'm a big fan of grey/orange as modern colour scheme so I'm really pleased to have been able to use it in the new logo & design. The header logo is from a DNA portrait I had done of my DNA. I couldn't think of anything that could give the site a more personal touch than that and I think it looks pretty funky and forms the basis of the brand 'Digital is in our DNA'.
